Off Campus Lunch

Metropolitan Business Academy decided to discontinue their off campus lunch policy as of November 16, 2011. Cody’s – a small diner located just down the street from the school, is the cause for the new rule. Students have been leaving school; mainly during breakfast and lunch hours to grab a bite.

In a bold move by the New Haven Board of Education, students attending these schools are no longer allowed to leave campus for lunch. Reasons why this rule was implemented are still unclear, but for the most part it is a liability issue.

Bullying

There are few things in this world that I hate more than bullying. Everything associated with bullies and bullying- I loathe. The fact that a bully thrives off of hurting other people actually makes me sick, I'l never understand these type of people. However with that being said, I have witnessed bullying and interacted with bullies many a times in my life. I have befriended victims and bullies alike, and what I've noticed most often is that bullies never believe themselves to actually BE bullies.

I talked to a fellow classmate of mine, Alex ChowYen about this topic. ''Bullying is something that happens every  day, it's something we can't stop. But, it needs to.''

The above is an article about a 10-year old girl who committed suicide because of bullying at school. Needless to say I'm disgusted.

My Rights As A Student

Many a times we as students forget that we have rights too, why is that? Is it because we're so used to obeying many authority figures a day? Is it because we ourselves feel too young to be absolutely sure of all of our rights? Either way, after reading up on two supreme court cases; Tinker v. Des Moines and Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier, one thing is for sure-no one actually knows!

Tinker v. Des Moines outcome says, we have the right to express ourselves freely anyway we'd like. Verbally. Visually. Spiritually.

Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier outcome says, the administration has the right to censor any school sponsored expression.

So, who does one believe? What does one follow? Well, I say The Constitution. Stand by and protect your rights LEGALLY. =)

CLEAN! CLEAN! CLEAN!: Red Lentil Improves Inspection Rating

Normally when a restaurant fails an inspection, they automatically turn to worrying and sulking. But, Pankaj Pradhan- owner of the Red Lentil-broke the mold, instead of putting a ton of pressure on himself and his employees, he worked with them, set them down, gave them an uplifting pep-talk and together they fixed every problem they had. No more unlabeled containers, no more dirty walls or stuffed vents, and definitely no more defective machinery. Now whenever a customer comes into The Red Lentil, they don't have to worry about being in an ''unsanitary'' place! Mr. Pradhan showed the perseverance many of us lack in life, when you fall down, just get up ; )

The Legends......The Shamed

Do these faces look familiar? If so, It's probably because they're legends. Yep legends, in the purest sense of the word. They are innovators, record holders, role models. 4 of the greatest to ever do it.
Now look at these faces. You probably recognize them too. They're the shamed. Trackletes who were caught taking performance enhancing drugs. Although not the sole, they are part of the reason track itself has taken a downward spiral in the world's eyes. History.
